Bhubaneswar, Nov 1 (FN Agency) Odisha vigilance sleuths have found possession of assets worth over Rs.6.97 crore disproportionate to the known sources of income during search operations in the house and business establishment of ex constable Prasanbna Behera who has been arrested and dismissed from the service The investigation of the case is in progress to unearth further assets and evidence in the case, an official release from the Odisha Vigilance directorate said. It said on the allegation of possession of assets disproportionate to the known sources of income by Sri, Ex-Constable, Police Commissionerate, Bhubaneswar-Cuttack, Prasanna Kumar Behera simultaneous house searches were conducted at five places.
These places included government residential quarter at Bhubaneswar, Spark furniture Pvt. Ltd. at Dumduma, Bhubaneswar, Furniture WorkShop at Santha Vihar, Lingipur, Bhubaneswar, South City Bar at Patrapada, Bhubaneswar and double storeyed building at his native village Nuapada, Khordha Five teams of Odisha Vigilance led by 2 DSPs, 6 Inspectors and other staff on the strength of Search Warrants issued by the Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhubaneswar were conducted on October 28 last After thorough search, inventory and further enquiry, the income, expenditure and assets Prasanna Kumar Behera, and his family members were calculated and they were found in possession of assets disproportionate to the known sources of income to the tune of Rs.6,97,15,057/-which constitutes 221 percent of their known sources of income. A vigilance case was registered on October 30 against Prasanna Kumar Behera and his spouse and family members U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(b)/12 PC Act, 1988 as amended by Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. The Ex-Constable, who was dismissed from the service and later arrested by the Police Commissionerate for running a hotel and Bar without Bar license and in violation of covid guidelines, has been in judicial custody since October 23 last.
