New Delhi, Jan 5 (FN Agency) Delhi Police arrested a 32-year-old man for allegedly duping over a dozen female doctors on the pretext of providing PG seats in AIIMS. The police on Wednesday said the accused, identified as Shahduzamma, is a 12th fail and earlier used to work in a Call Centre in Gurugram. He created fake Facebook profiles in the name doctors and duped female doctors. Benita Mary jaikar, Deputy Commissioner of Police, South Delhi said a female doctor had lodged a complaint with Hauz Khas police station on December 21. She alleged that she came into contact with a person through Facebook who claimed his name Anshu Vinay and was a doctor in AIIMS Hospital.
She stated that the accused duped her of Rs six lakh on the pretext of helping her get a PG seat in AIIMS. After taking money from her, he started avoiding her calls and switched off his mobile phone then she realised that she was cheated. On the basis of her complaint, a case was registered in Hauz Khas police station and a probe was initiated. DCP said the complainant was thoroughly questioned after that section 419/420 IPC was also added in the case. The bank account in which the money was deposited by the complainant was analyzed and it was found that the account was in the name of Shahduzamman, a resident of Muzzafar Nagar, Uttar Pradesh. A raid was conducted on the address but it was noticed that the accused rarely went to his house. The accused had switched off his mobile phone thus it was difficult to trace his location.
Hence, the team started working on all the available aspects of the case, but the police got lead from some local intelligence that the accused was hiding in south Delhi’s Saket area. Acting on this input, the team laid a trap at and around PVR Saket and after continuous searching for two hours, the accused was arrested while he was waiting for another female Doctor who was about to come to meet him for a seat in AIIMS, said DCP. The accused told police that he had duped over a dozen female doctors. He used to make fake profiles on social media by impersonating himself as a doctor in AIIMS Hospital and contacted female doctors and cheated them on the pretext of helping them in getting PG seat in AIIMS Delhi, the DCP added. The police said he was working as a clothes vendor in Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam and other places for the last three years and only used to visit Delhi when he used to take money or get the money transferred into his account. He used to change his mobile numbers regularly and mostly switched off his mobile after making calls.
