Madurai, March 24 (Bureau) Madurai Rural district police seized 340 kilogram of ganja smuggled from Andhra Pradesh and arrested four persons at Karadikal in suburban Tirumangalam in this district early on Thursday. Police, during a routine vehicle check up intercepted a car on suspicion and subsequent checks revealed the presence of 10 bags each containing 20 kg of contraband.
Acting on the information given by the occupants of the car, the police team subsequently raided a godown at Gandhi Nagar locality in Karadikal and seized 140 kg ganja. In all, 340 kg of ganja worth several lakhs of rupees were seized from them. Further inquiries with them revealed that they had smuggled the contraband from narcotic peddlers in Andhra Pradesh to be supplied across Tamil Nadu. The smugglers were identified as Jayakumar (40), Rajendran (55), Deivam (46) and Ramesh (36). Further investigation is on. Madurai Superintendent of Police V Baskaran held an inquiry with the arrested persons.
