Kolkata, Nov 2 (Agency) Kolkata Police have arrested three suspects- two of them the residents of Delhi and one from Guwalior- for alleged involvement in cricket betting during Pakistan-Bangladesh World Cup play at Eden Gardens, official sources said on Thursday. They were arrested by the Shakespeare Police station police on Tuesday evening and a city court remanded them to the police custody until November 6. Whiler Sameer Khan and Ahsis Batra are from Delhi, and Manish is from Guwalior. During a raid the police also recovered three cell phones, laptop and betting related materials, police said.
The trio arrived here to carry on betting during the cricket matches and stayed in a city hotel. Sameer was communicating from the stadium and the other two were receiving information. Police said the ICC’s anti-corruption unit first detained Sameer at the Eden Gardens and then handed over to the Maidan police station for further action. Police, after interrogating Sameer, raided a bar at the Ho Chi Minh Sarani and arrested Ashish and Manish. Betting is banned across India. Police said the trio was allegedly involved in an app involved in betting businesses.
