J&K Anti-Corruption Bureau arrests MES Engineers for accepting bribe

Jammu, Aug 21 (Agency) A team of the Anti-Corruption Bureau on Saturday arrested two engineers of Military Engineering Services (MES) for accepting bribe, an official spokesman said. The ACB spokesman said that Assistant Garrison Engineers Abhay Kumar and Atma Singh, Junior Engineer of Military Engineering Services (MES) were arrested while accepting a bribe of Rs 40,000. He said that a complaint was received by the ACB alleging that contracts for different kinds of works were allotted by Garrison Engineer (North) Akhnoor for construction of various types of building to be utilized by the Army between year 2017-2020.

“The complainant alleged that the completion certificate and the payments for the same were being deliberately delayed by the officials,” he said and added that the officials were demanding their commission as bribe for preparing the completion certificate and releasing payments etc. Based upon the facts disclosed in the complaint, the spokesman said that a case was registered against the accused persons namely Abhay Kumar, Assistant Garrison Engineer and Atma Singh Junior Engineer. “A team was constituted whereupon both the accused persons were caught red handed while accepting the bribe of Rs 20,000/- each, and accordingly were placed under arrest,” he added. Searches were also conducted at the official and residential premises of both the accused MES officials. Further investigations in the case is under progress, he said.
