Jahangirpuri violence case: Delhi court extends police custody of 5

New Delhi, April 23 (Bureau) A local court on Saturday extended the police custody of five persons by eight days, arrested for their alleged involvement in the Jahangirpuri violence case. Clashes had broken out between two communities during the Hanuman Jayanti procession at Jahangirpuri on April 16, which left eight police personnel and a local resident injured. Police produced Ansar and Sonu, who were seen in a video opening fire during the clashes, along with Salim, Ahir and Dilshad before the Court and requested to extend the police custody of all the accused. Police submitted before the Court that the accused were required for further interrogation for confronting all the co-accused with each other.

It further submitted that for linking the chain of incidents and to ascertain the role of each and every one of them and to find out the source of illegal weapons, which were used in the alleged offence and for tracing the other accused persons involved in the case, police custody was required. The Counsel representing Delhi Police said that accused Sanwar Kalia, Saddam Khan, Anwar, Chand and Salman were absconding and requested for issuance of Non Bailable Warrants (NBWs) against the accused, which was accepted by the court. Metropolitan Magistrate Mayank Goel extended the police custody of the accused and adjourned the matter for May 1.
