New Delhi, June 5 (Agency) Around 32 people, who were allegedly running an International fake call center and used to dupe USA citizens under the pretext of providing Microsoft support, were arrested by the Cyber Police of Outer district here, police said on Saturday. According to police, the accused were cheating US citizens by pretending to be executives of Microsoft support. It also came to notice that fraudsters were engaged in using illegal techniques, VOIP calling, bypassing the legal International Long Distance (ILD) Gateways and thus causing wrongful loss to Government Exchequer and wrongful gain to themselves. On checking the computer systems installed there it was found that they were also using remote access applications such as Ultra viewer, Team Viewer and Any Desk. The dialing software was checked and a list of US telephone numbers in the Dialed/Received Calls was found, said Sameer Sharma, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Outer District. Four main accused, identified as Mohit Khanna (50), Bhupinder Singh (32), Rahul Makhija (22) and Subham (23), were allegedly found involved in the offence were arrested and other twenty eight telecallers were also bound down, said Sharma.
The police had received secret information on May 31, that an illegal call center was being run on Road No. 44 in the area of Rani Bagh. The information was further developed and it came to light that the cheaters were involved in large-scale cyber cheating with US citizens by impersonating them as the executives of Microsoft Support from the USA and inducing them to pay money for solving a non-existent problem, Sharma said. On the basis of information a raid was conducted at Engineers Enclave, where over 25 persons (male/female) were found engaged on a number of computers installed, in two separate halls on the same premises. It was found that a setup of Computers and accessories were installed to communicate with the US citizens. These alleged persons used to call the US Nationals with English names in order to impersonate themselves as Microsoft Support executives from the USA. On the basis of the circumstances and the affected material recovered, a case under section 419/420/120B/34 IPC & 66C & 66D IT Act, was registered in Cyber Police Station, Outer District.
