Namkhana (West Bengal), Feb 17 (Agency) Indian Coast Guard’s Frazerganj base detained 88 fishermen, including three Bangladeshi trawlers, from Indian waters. Eightyeight fishermen have been arrested for entering Indian waters illegally. Three trawlers were detained on Tuesday from within 35 nautical miles of Indian waters, official sources said. This afternoon, while a ship of the Indian Coast Guard was patrolling the Indo-Bangladesh waters, the Coast Guard personal on duty saw three Bangladeshi trawlers entering Indian waters. After that, the Coast Guard arrested 88 fishermen including those three trawlers.
The fishermen in the trawlers were arrested on Tuesday night and brought to the Frazerganj base of the Coast Guard. Later, a local trawler and 10 fishermen were sent to the spot from Namkhana Frazerganj Fisheries Port to bring 3 trawlers ashore. Then on Wednesday afternoon F.B. Al Rafi, F.B. Sonar Modina, F.B. Fotema the three Bangladeshi trawlers were brought to Frazerganj fishing port. At present those three trawlers are in Frazerganj fishing port of Namkhana. When three Bangladeshi trawlers reached Frazerganj Fisheries Port this afternoon, N.P. Sing, officer of Fraserganj Base of Indian Coast Guard was present at the port and other officers including Shuvendu Das, officer-in-charge of Frazerganj Coastal Police Station. According to administration sources, the houses of 88 fishermen in those three trawlers are in Cox’s Bazar area of Bangladesh. The 88 fishermen were taken to Kakdwip sub-divisional court on Thursday.
