Huge quantity of smuggled gold seized at Karipur airport

Malappuram, Nov 17 (Agency) The Air Customs Intelligence at the Calicut International Airport in Karipur near here has on Wednesday seized 7.5 kgs of gold from five passengers, from various Gulf countries, who landed at the airport early this morning. According to Customs sources, the seizure would cost about four crore rupees in the gold market.

The airport has been witnessing numerous instances of smuggling of gold by passengers from the Middle East ever since resuming the flight operations in the international sector early this year. In a tragic incident four among a gold smuggling racket were killed in a car accident while they were chasing another gold racket. The road accident in Ramanattukara had exposed the active functioning of gold smuggling rackets as well as stealer gangs operating around the airport area.
