Gandhinagar, Nov 15 (FN Agency) The Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) of Gujarat Police has recovered around 120 kg heroin worth Rs 600 crore from a village in Morbi district. Police have arrested three people in the case, in an operation carried out by the ATS along with local police in Zinzuda village, located near the Navlakhi port. State Director General of Police Ashish Bhatia said that this consignment of heroin, sent by sea in October by Pakistani drug smuggler Zahid Bashir Baloch, was first kept at Salaya in Dwarka district, which was later shifted to Morbi district. “K. Malia was brought to Zinzuda village of Miyana taluka and shifted to the house of local smuggler Shamshuddin Hussain. Along with Shamshuddin, two of his other associates, Mukhtar Hussain alias Jabbar Jodia and Ghulam Jhagad were also arrested,” said the DGP.
“This heroin was to be sent to Africa,” he said. According to the police, Zahid is also wanted in another case of heroin seizure on behalf of the DRI in the year 2019. State Director General of Police Ashish Bhatia also said that the three smugglers caught with heroin are notorious and one of them Mukhtar was earlier caught by the Pakistan Marine Security Agency but he somehow managed to escape. He said that after detailed investigation and interrogation, other people may also be arrested. Bhatia said that Pakistani drug cartels use the Long Beach in Gujarat for drug smuggling. In the last five months alone, narcotics worth more than Rs 25,000 crore have been seized in the state.
