Five members of a gold chain snatching gang held, 24 gold chains recovered

Bhubaneswar, Oct 27 (Representative) The Commissionerate Police has busted a gold snatching gang with the arrest of five criminals and seizure of 24 gold chains worth Rs 10 lakh, two motor cycles and six mobile phones from their possession. Police identified the criminals as Laxman Sahu alias Nikhil (23), Silu alias Sushil Kumar Rana (19), Pradeep Sahu (19), Bulbul Samantaray (25) and Bappi alias Gopinath Das (39). Police here today said a special team was constituted to nab the criminals after several gold snatching cases were reported in the capital city during last few months.

The criminals were using stolen speed bikes and fake registration numbers to snatch the chains of ladies commuting inside the city. The gang consisted of six veteran criminals had started their operation since January 2021. The gang is presently involved in 20 cases. Out of which 17 are in Bhubaneswar and three in Puri. The special Police team was constantly following the gang and apprehended them near Kalpana chowk yesterday while they were trying to flee seeing the police.
