Bhubaneswar, June 17 (FN Bureau) A former Civil Supplies Officer of Nayagarh district, now under suspension, was arrested by Odisha Vigilance on Saturday in a Disproportionate Assets (DA) case .Vigilance sources said Brajendra Kumar Nayak, Ex-Civil Supplies Officer, was arrested for possession of disproportionate assets (DA) to the tune of 268 percent of his known sources of income. A case has been registered against Nayak, and his spouse U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(b)/12 P.C. Amendment Act, 2018.During house searches, movable and immovable assets worth crores were unearthed in the name of Nayak, and his family members. Assets unearthed included five multi storied buildings in Bhubaneswar, one Farm house, seven plots, one market complex with 10 shops and a hall of area 2000 sq feet at Nimapara, Puri, Rs 1.5 crore deposits and a four wheeler.
This apart bank and insurance deposits worth approximately Rs.1.5 crore,one four wheeler and 3 two wheelers worth Rs.7.8 Lakhs were also unearthed. Gold ornaments weighing over 644 grams also detected in a bank locker during the search operation.After thorough search, inventory and further enquiry Nayak was found in possession of disproportionate assets which were 268 percent in excess of his known sources of income. Further search of the locker and details of other investments are being ascertained. Final Disproportionate Assets (DA) value may increase further, Vigilance sources said.
