Efforts taken to arrest kingpin of drug & narcotic racket: Tripura CM

Agartala, Sep 25 (Bureau) Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha reiterated on Sunday that the state government has launched a special operation to arrest the kingpin of drug and narcotic racket operating from the state while addressing the 55th NSS Day celebrations here. He said the Tripura government launched the Nesha Mukt (drug-free) Tripura mission five years ago to protect the youths who have been somehow getting into the trap of drug abuse and narcotic substances, and there have been achievements but not eradicated the menace. “As part of the conspiracy to destroy the youth forces of our country, a vested interest group got engaged in the smuggling of drugs and narcotics from Myanmar, Mizoram, and Tripura to other parts of India and Bangladesh, for which Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a crusade and Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced zero tolerance to drugs and narcotics,” Dr Saha said.

The main objective of the Nesha Mukt Tripura campaign is to bring out the youths from the clutches of drug abuse and addiction to narcotic substances, to cut the supply chain, and to identify the persons behind the racket. So far, it has yielded good results, the Chief Minister said, adding, “We have undertaken a comprehensive action plan to exterminate the hazard”. “We have taken several initiatives, including numerous arrests, and efforts are underway to apprehend the drug kingpins, and people should initiate a movement by identifying those involved in drug trafficking,” Dr Saha added.
