Drugs worth Rs 27.15 cr seized in Manipur

Imphal, June 12 (FN Agency) Manipur Police have seized drugs worth about Rs 27.15 crores in the international market from two persons, an official said on Saturday. Police said during an intensive frisking and checking near Kalapahar Outpost along NH-2 in Kangpokpi district. a car from Nagaland was noticed, as the driver was behaving in a suspicious manner. When questioned, the driver revealed that he was a drug peddler transporting illegal drugs along the highway and also admitted that heroin was concealed in the car. The man was identified asThaovikhu Mk of Laii Village, Tadubi, Senapati District. When the vehicle was searched, 71 soap cases containing suspected Heroin weighing 2.955 Kgs was found.

The value of the suspected Heroin was estimated at Rs 21,30,000 in the local market and Rs 10,65,00,000 in the International market according to police. The person revealed that he obtained the suspected Heroine No.4 from one Letkhohao Haokip of Champhai Village, Churachandpur. Later, Kangpokpi and Churachandpur police launched a joint operation and from the residence of Letkhojang Haokip 110 soap cases of suspected Heroin No.4 powder were recovered. The approximate value of the suspected Heroin No. 4 recovered was estimated at Rs 33 lakhs in the local market and Rs 16.50 crores in the international market. Altogether drugs worth Rs.27.15 crores in the international market were seized. A regular case has been registered for investigation. Both the accused persons were produced and remanded in police custody till June 17.
