Drug peddler arrested in Kulgam, contraband recovered

Srinagar, Aug 31 (Agency) Police on Tuesday arrested a drug peddler and recovered contraband from him in south Kashmir district of Kulgam. A police spokesperson said that following specific information about transportation of drugs, a checkpoint was established at Okay in Kulgam. “Police intercepted a suspicious person at the checkpoint and during checking recovered 500 gms of Charas and 5 kgs of Poppy Straw from him,” he said. He said the accused, identified as Hilal Ahmad Mir, was immediately taken into custody.

“A case vide FIR No. 202/2021 under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station Kulgam and further investigation into the matter has been initiated,” he said. He said community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood, adding persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. “Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace,” he added.
