Drug peddler arrested, contraband recovered in Anantnag

Anantnag, Jul 29 (Agency) Jammu and Kashmir police arrested a drug peddler and recovered huge quantity of contraband substance in this south Kashmir district, a police spokesman said on Thursday. He said Police Station Mattan received an information through reliable sources that one person namely Mohammad Shafi Najar, resident of Mattipora Nanil, has indulged in drug peddling and hoarded a huge quantity of contraband in his residential house. Accordingly, a police party, headed by SHO Police station Mattan alongwith Executive Magistrate, raided the house and during search, 500 Kgs of Poppy Straw was recovered.

Najar has been arrested, the spokesperson said, adding a case FIR under relevant sections of law was registered in Police Station Mattan and investigation was taken up. Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace.
