Hyderabad, May 8 (Agency) The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) officials on Monday said that they have seized 5.9 kgs of heroin, worth around Rs 41.3 crore, from a passenger at Rajiv Gandhi International (RGI) Airport here. Based on specific intelligence, DRI officials intercepted one female passenger who arrived from Malawi to Hyderabad via Doha on Sunday and during the examination of the checked-in baggage of the passenger resulted in the recovery of 5.90 kg of creamy white powder granules in transparent packets, concealed within false cavities of the suitcase, an official release said here.
On testing with the narcotics field-testing kits, the substance tested positive for “Heroin”, a narcotic drug covered under the NDPS Act, 1985. The seized NDPS substance, collectively weighing 5.90 kg, is valued at around Rs.41.3 cr in the illicit market. The substance was ingeniously concealed within false cavities in the checked-in suitcase. The contraband has been seized and the passenger has been arrested and remanded to judicial custody under the provisions of the NDPS Act, 1985. Further investigation is underway, the release added.
