New Delhi, April 19 (Agency) To connect the dots of Jahangirpuri violence, the Delhi Police is relying on digital evidence being collected from the northwest area of the capital that witnessed clashes leaving several injured, including policemen. The investigators are focusing on phone details, CDRs, viral video clips, social media accounts and CCTV footage to pinpoint the real culprits of the violence that broke out over the weekend. The police is also trying to get information about the arms suppliers of the pistols that were used during the clashes on April 16, sources said. Police Commissioner Rakesh Asthana on Monday told the media: “The investigation of social media, video footage is going on from all angles. Strict action will be taken against the accused involved in the incident, whether directly or indirectly…” Two accused, Sonu (28) and Sheikh Hameed (36), were arrested in connection with the violence on Monday.
Sonu alias Imam aka Yunus is a resident of Block C in Jahangirpuri, who was seen in a purported video circulated on April 17 on social media. It is alleged that he is the same person who is seen in blue kurta holding a gun. Sonu is being accused of opening fire during the violence in Jahangirpuri on Saturday, said a senior police official of Delhi Police, North-West Delhi. Sheikh Hameed, another resident of the same block, is a scrap dealer. During interrogation Hameed apparently told police he supplied bottles which were used for pelting during the violence, said Delhi Police. The police have been trying to find out the supplier of the pistols which were used during the Jahangirpuri violence. Twenty five people have been arrested so far out of them eight people have previous involvement in various cases. More arrests are likely to be made after analysis of digital evidence, said the Delhi Police. The team of Delhi Police Crime Branch visited and inspected the violence-hit area on Monday. The FSL team collected evidence from several spot.
