New Delhi, Aug 31 (FN Agency) Delhi Police on Saturday said that a Punjab-based agent and two associates were arrested for arranging fake travel documents for four passengers travelling to Birmingham, UK. The police received a complaint in May about the suspicious behaviour of the passengers and launched an investigation. During questioning, the passengers revealed that they had paid an agent, Paramjeet Singh, Rs 10 lakh each in advance for arranging fake Continuous Discharge Certificates (CDCs) and jobs in the UK. “The passengers disclosed that they wanted to go abroad for earning money and they had met each other through agent Paramjeet Singh who agreed to send them Birmingham, UK in lieu of Rs. 22 Lakh each on fake CDCs,” the Police said. “They also disclosed that as per the instructions of the agent Paramjeet Singh, they had met with one Salman Abassi who was working at Airport who assured them in boarding their flight.
The agent was kept guiding them over phone but they were caught by CISF officials on suspicion basis,” the Police added. During the course of further investigation, one employee of Air India Sats, namely Salman Abassi, was also arrested in the case. His activities/movements were seen as suspicious based on the analysis of CCTV footage. Upon interrogation, the accused Salman Abbasi disclosed that he was in contact with the agent, and one of the agent’s associates, namely Shahnawaj, had sent him pictures of all the passengers for boarding with fake CDC documents. The accused Shahnawaj was also arrested in the case. “Shahnawaj informed the authorities that he had previously worked at the airport and was working with agent Paramjeet Singh on a commission basis. The agent would send him details of the passengers and their photos, which he would then forward to Salman Abbasi. Salman Abbasi’s duty involved checking, boarding, and document verification, and he would facilitate the boarding of passengers by taking his commission,” the Police said. Several raids were conducted at the possible hideouts of agent Paramjeet Singh, but despite best efforts, he could not be traced.
His anticipatory bail applications were also dismissed by the Sessions Court and the High Court of Delhi. A dedicated team was constituted under the close supervision of ACP/IGI Airport. After dedicated efforts by the team, the accused agent, Paramjeet Singh, aged 27 years, was arrested in Delhi. During sustained interrogation, the accused Paramjeet Singh confessed to his guilt and disclosed that he had studied up to the 12th grade and was working as an agent to earn quick money. He further disclosed that he, along with his associates, used to dupe people by promising to send them abroad and provide job opportunities there. The accused also revealed that all the passengers had approached him and expressed their interest in going abroad. He assured them that he would arrange all their documents, including visas, fake CDCs, and their journey to Birmingham, UK, in exchange for Rs 22 lakhs each.
