New Delhi, July 17 (Agency) Delhi government has ordered infrastructural assessment of all childcare institutions in the national capital, Women and Child Development Minister Kailash Gahlot said on Saturday. He informed the decision taken while attending an event organised at Sanskar Ashram Complex, in North East District to mark the occasion of ‘World Day for International Justice’.Children’s Homes located in Sanskar Ashram Complex host girls and boys below 18 years of age found in difficult circumstances by the order of the Child Welfare Committee. Department of Women & Child Development has established and maintains 26 such Child Care Institutions (CCIs) across Delhi.Such Government run institutions are located at seven different locations in Lajpat Nagar, Hari Nagar, Alipur, Kingsway Camp, Delhi Gate, Majnu Ka Tila and Dilshad Garden.Gahlot expressed his concern over the infrastructural inadequacy and maintenance of the institutional buildings in these complexes.
“Children placed in these institutions should feel at home and till the family is found for restoration or adoption. Till then, the Delhi Government will take all the responsibilities as of their guardian providing remedial care and protect their well-being. A plan for a state-of-the-art integrated complex for children requiring institutional care should be worked out in consultation with experts, architects, and PWD to be developed as a model in the country,” he said.During the event, the Delhi Minister handed over school bags with ration and educational kits to 17 orphan children from North-East and Shahdara District. World Day for International Justice is observed on 17th July every year worldwide to promote restorative justice and rights of victims of crime.
