Delhi: A man arrested for selling government property illegally

New Delhi, Nov 19 (Agency) Delhi Police on Friday arrested a man for allegedly selling government property illegally, said police. The Delhi Police Economic Offences Wing received a complaint from Timpi Sabharwal in which she alleged that she was approached by two persons who offered her a lucrative proposal for selling a land near Karbala in Delhi for a total sale consideration of Rs 45 crores. The accused, identified as Rockes B Sandhu, had also confirmed having all authority to sell the land in question and induced her to enter into a letter of intent for the same and subsequently, on the basis of his misrepresentation, the complainant paid an amount of Rs 3.19 crore to him as advance money, said K Ramesh, DCP, EOW.

The full and final payment was to be made when the sale-deed was to be executed in favour of the complainant but once he usurped the amount, he had lost interest in the deal and never executed sale-deed, said police. On enquiry, the complainant came to know that Sandhu had no legal right to sell the land. On the basis of complaint, a case was registered on June 18, 2020, under various sections of IPC and a probe was initiated into the matter. During investigation, it was revealed that as per the revenue record it is a Delhi Development Authority land (DDA). Moreover, no such land is either allotted or leased out to anyone by DDA. The cheated money was received in the accounts operated by the accused as authorized signatory, said K Ramesh. The accused misrepresented the complainant Sabharwal with regards to the status of the land and without having legal rightful authority over it, he entered into letter of intent for selling the land with the complainant and received advance money to the tune of 3.19 crore from the complainant however accused had nothing to do with the land, said police. A Look Out Circular (LOC) was issued to check his movement following which he was located nearby Connaught Place and arrested. Police has obtained his three days police remand, said K Ramesh.
