DCW issues notice to Delhi Police over sexual harassment in Metro

New Delhi, June 3 (Representative) The Delhi Commission for Women on Friday issued a notice to Delhi Police over the incident of alleged sexual harassment with a girl in Delhi Metro. The survivor revealed the horrific ordeal on Twitter, after which DCW Chairperson Swati Maliwal took cognisance of the matter. In a Twitter post, the girl stated that a man allegedly sexually harassed her at Jor Bagh Station of Delhi Metro. She stated that on June 2 at 2 pm, she was travelling in the yellow line of Delhi Metro, when a stranger approached her and sought her help with locating an address. After helping him, she got off the train and sat on a platform trying to book her cab. Again, the accused approached her and asked further clarification regarding the address.

The accused then inappropriately touched her. The girl has identified the accused, who boarded another metro train. Taking cognisance of the social media post of the girl, Maliwal asked Delhi police to provide a copy of FIR and CCTV footage of the incident, along with the details of the accused arrested in the matter. The Commission also asked details of police personnel, along with action taken against them for allegedly not helping the girl. “A shocking incident has come to light, where a girl was sexually harassed in broad daylight in Delhi Metro. The girl is totally traumatised after the incident. We have issued a notice to Delhi Police in the matter and demand that an FIR be registered and the accused be arrested immediately. There should be a zero tolerance policy in cases of sexual assault,” the DCW chief said.
