CBI files response in HC, opposes Kejriwal’s bail plea

New Delhi, July 17 (Agency) The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday filed its reply before the Delhi High Court opposing bail to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the Liquor Policy scam case.The probe agency’s response was filed before Justice Neena Bansal Krishna who is hearing Kejriwal’s plea challenging his arrest by the CBI and seeking bail.The CBI while opposing the bail plea of Kejriwal expressed fears that the Chief Minister may misuse his good terms with officialsThe probe agency also alleged that Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party colleagues and his wife had allegedly been spreading a false narrative to influence witnesses indirectly.

The CBI in its reply to the High Court said that it didn’t seek further custody of Kejriwal due to his deliberate attempts to derail the investigation.Seeing Kejriwal’s conduct, the Investigation Officer (IO) didn’t deem it fit to confront him with a person acquainted with the facts of the case, the CBI said.The Supreme Court granted Kejriwal interim bail in a money laundering case registered by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with the Liquor Policy case but he continues to remain behind bars because the CBI has filed a separate corruption case against him.Kejriwal’s lawyers Senior Advocate Dr Abhishek Manu Singhvi, N Hariharan and Vikram Chaudhari were also in court. CBI Special Public Prosecutor (SPP) DP Singh was also in court.
