CBI files case against 8 former railway officials

New Delhi, Feb 15 (Agency) The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday registered a case against eight people, including then senior divisional electrical engineer of Railways, for allegedly conspiring with the private suppliers for purchasing of non-store items at higher costs. CBI filed a case against then Senior Divisional Electrical Engineer, then Assistant Divisional Electrical Engineer, then Senior Material Manager, then two Senior Section Engineers, then two Chief Office Superintendents, former Divisional Electrical Engineer, they all were posted in Central Railways, and unknown others, said CBI spokesperson.

The accused had allegedly entered into conspiracy with the private suppliers for purchasing of Non-Store items at higher costs, in exchange of illegal monetary benefit from the private firms/companies. It was alleged that ambiguous descriptions of items were mentioned in such a manner that it could not be procured from GeM Portal and may not be understood by other suppliers, except some set of suppliers who were involved in the conspiracy. It was also alleged that this resulted in limited tendering and as such the tenders were allotted to the favoured set of suppliers and allegedly procured on exorbitant rates. Such purchases were allegedly of Rs 22.60 crore, said CBI. Searches were conducted at 12 locations in the premises of the accused which led to recovery of incriminating documents related to the case.
