CBI arrests seven in WB post-poll violence case

New Delhi, July 25 (Agency) The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested seven accused during the investigation of a case related to the death of Sridhar Das in an alleged post-poll violence case of West Bengal. CBI had registered a case in compliance with orders of the Calcutta High Court, pertaining to post poll violence in West Bengal and took over the probe of a case earlier registered on June 25 last year at Dinhata, Coochbehar (West Bengal) Police Station, the agency said in a statement here. It was alleged that on May 4, 2021 at about 2:00 pm, Sridhar Das was allegedly beaten with a stick and iron rods by unknown accused.

It was further alleged that when his wife came to rescue him, she was also mercilessly beaten by the accused. After the incident, Das was admitted to Dinhata Hospital and later shifted to other hospitals in Cooch Behar, where he died during treatment. During investigation, CBI identified, traced and arrested seven accused from Cooch Behar, Jaipur and Kolkata, who were allegedly involved in the death of Das, it stated. Searches were conducted at around eight locations in Cooch Behar, which led to recovery of incriminating documents and articles. The accused were produced before the Court and remanded to police custody.
