New Delhi, Jan 31(FN Representative) Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday caught an IAS officer posted as Director in Punjab Roadways in Chandigarh for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs two lakh from the complainant. CBI received a complaint against the Director. The complainant alleged that his promotion was due to the rank of General Manager for which DPC was constituted this January and the Director was the DPC, said CBI spokesperson. The accused allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs five lakh from the complainant for recommending his name to Principal Secretary, Transport, Punjab government, for promotion.
The bribe was allegedly negotiated and agreed to accept Rs two lakh from him. The Director allegedly threatened the complainant to bear the consequences if the bribe would not be paid to him. A case was registered against the Director on the basis of complaint and CBI laid a trap and caught the Director while he was allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs two lakh, said CBI. Searches were being conducted at the premises of the accused in Chandigarh and Mohali.
