A man held for selling illegal Chinese manjha in Delhi

New Delhi, Aug 16 (Agency) A 48-year-old man was arrested for allegedly selling illegal Chinese manjha in Delhi’s Nihal Vihar area, police said on Monday. The accused has been identified as Ashok Kumar. Around 170 bundles of illegal Chinese manjha have been recovered from his possession, said Sameer Sharma, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Outer District, Delhi. A case under section 188 IPC and 7/15 Environment Protection Act was registered against the accused at Nihal Viha Police Station, Sharma added. During interrogation, the accused disclosed that he runs a tea shop and in greed of earning money he deals in selling illegal Chinese Manjha in the Nihal Vihar area, claimed police.

It is reported that Chinese manjha has claimed at least three lives and injured over a dozen people this year. According to police, following the guidelines of NGT Delhi regarding use of Chinese manjha, special drives were under operation to arrest the offenders who have been incorporating themselves in illegal sale of the fatal item. NGT has totally banned selling, manufacturing and using of Chinese manjha.

The people who would be found violating the instruction will be booked for five years or fine Rs one lakh or both will be imposed, said police. On Sunday, a 26-year-old man riding on scooty had his throat slit on the Nathu Colony flyover in Mansarover Park area of Shahdara district. Last week, a 34-year-old motorcyclist lost his life on Shastri Park Flyover in north-east district because of fatle Chinese manjha.
