New Delhi, Feb 10 (Agency) A total of 7,925 Indian prisoners are lodged in different foreign jails, Minister of States in the External Affairs Ministry V. Muraleedharan informed the Rajya Sabha on Thursday. The a maximum of 1,663 prisoners are lodged in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) followed by 1,363 in Saudi Arabia and 1,039 in Nepal, the Minister said in a written reply.
Further, 628 Indians were in prisons in Pakistan, 466 in Qatar, 460 in Kuwait, 290 in Malaysia, 373 in the United Kingdom and 254 in the jails of the US. From 2006 to January 2022, 86 prisoners, including 75 Indians, have been transferred under the Repatriation of Prisoners Act, 2003 to serve the remainder of their sentences, the Minister added.
