Aizawl, May 31 (Agency) In yet another success in its crusade against drug trafficking and illegal smuggling activities Assam Rifles personnel have arrested three persons and recovered 1.387 kgs of heroin worth Rs 9.70 crore from their possession in Mizoram-Myanmar border. A release issued by the Assam Rifles on Friday said that the contraband was seized on Thursday from Melbuk and Zote villages on the Mizoram-Myanmar border and Champhai-Aizawl road in Champhai district, in a single night. The release said three persons were apprehended for alleged possession and trafficking of the illegal drugs, concealed in 112 soap cases.
“The operations were carried out by a team of Assam Rifles, Police officials posted at Zokhawthar and Champhai town, based on specific inputs and deliberate planning. During three different operations 146 grams of Heroin were recovered from Melbuk, 22 grams of Heroin in Zote and 1 kilo and 219 grams of Heroin on Champhai-Aizawl road. Three smugglers who are residents of Kahrawt and New Champhai were nabbed during special Area Domination Patrol based on specific inputs,” the statement said. The apprehended individuals were handed over to Zokhawthar and Champhai Police stations on the same day for further legal proceedings.
