Sensex regains 701.67 points

Mumbai, April 28 (Agency) The BSE Sensex on Thursday bounced back 701.67 points to close at 57,521.06 on positive global cues. The Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) too rose 206.65 points at 17,245.05. The Sensex jumped 477 points to open at 57,296.31. During the day, it soared 971 points at 57,790.85, the day’s high, before closing at 57,521.06, surging 701.67 points from its previous close. The Sensex registered the day’s high and low at 57,790.85 and 56,936.94 respectively. The Nifty recorded the day’s high and low at 17,322.50 and 17,071.05 respectively. Sectoral indices like FMCG, power, utilities and energy pushed the market up. In scrips, Hind Unilever was a star gainer, up 4.55 per cent to Rs 2,241.80 followed by Asian Paints by 3.18 per cent to Rs 3,248.55, Powergrid by 2.79 per cent to Rs 235.65, NTPC by 2.67 per cent to Rs 159.70 and L& T by 2.58 per cent to Rs 1,720.

The losers were Bharti Airtel by 0.84 per cent to Rs 747.25, M& M by 0.54 per cent to Rs 921.70, HCL Technology by 0.31 per cent to Rs 1,092.65 and HDFC Bank by 0.12 per cent to Rs 1,371.05. The Mid Cap rose by 0.83 per cent and Small Cap by 0.12 per cent. In 30 scrips, 26 advanced while 4 declined. European stocks moved up on Thursday as investors reacted to a slew of earnings and continued to monitor developments in Ukraine and Russia’s next move on its gas supplies to Europe. The pan-European Stoxx 600 rose 1 per cent and Germany’s DAX advanced 2 per cent. The UK’s FTSE100 gained 0.9 per cent. In Asian Market, Japan’s Nikkei gained 1.7 per cent, South Korea’s Kospi 1 per cent up, and China’s Shanghai Composite too rose by 0.6 per cent.
