Mumbai, Jan 13 (FN Agency) The equity market kept gaining streak intact for the fifth consecutive session on Thursday, as the BSE Sensex advanced 85.26 pts to close at 61,235.30 following gains in Metal, Materials, Utilities and Power stocks. The Nifty of National Stock Exchange (NSE) too rose by 45.45 pts at 18,257.80. See saw trend was witnessed during the day, as the Sensex opened higher 109 pts at 61,259.99. It was edged up 198 pts at 61,348.57, days high, before closing at 61,235.30, rising 85.26 pts from its previous close. The Sensex registered days high and low at 61,348.57 and 60,949.81 respectively. The Nifty recorded days high and low at 18,272.25 and 18,163.80 respectively.
In indices, Metal was a major gainer up by more than three percent followed by Capital Goods, Utilities, Power and Materials more than one percent each, supported the market. In scrips, Tata Steel was a star gainer, rallied by 6.35 pc to Rs 1220. Other gainers were Sun Pharma by 3.54 pc to Rs 865.80, L&T by 2.64 pc to Rs 2024.95, Powergrid by 1.54 pc to Rs 208 and Bajaj Finserv by 1.49 pc to Rs 18,211.60. The losers were Wipro by 5.98 pc to Rs 650, Asian Paints by 2.38 pc to Rs 3459.95, HDFC Bank by 1.77 pc to Rs 1529 and HCL Technology by 1.71 pc to Rs 1328. The Mid Cap rose by 0.38 pc and Small Cap by 0.49 pc. In 30 scrips, 18 advanced while 12 declined. Mixed trend was seen in Asian Market. As Australia moved up by 0.45 pc followed by Hong Kong by 0.11 pc and Taiwan by 0.33 pc. While, China fell by 1.17 pc and Japan by 0.96 pc.
