Mumbai, Nov 2 (Bureau) The BSE Sensex on Monday dropped 109.40 pts to close at 60,029.06 in volatile trade, as selling was seen in Metal, Energy and Materials stocks. The Nifty of National Stock Exchange (NSE) too fell by 40.70 pts at 17,888.95. The Sensex opened higher by 222 pts to 60,360.61 pts. During the day it surged 283 pts to 60,421.14, days high. In late trade it slipped 257 pts to 59,881.75, days low, before closing at 60,029.06 from its previous close. The Sensex registered days high and low at 60,421.14 and 59,881.75 pts respectively. The Nifty recorded days high and low at 18,012.25 and 17,847.60 pts. The sectoral indices like Metal, Material, Energy and Oil and Gas stocks dragged the market.
In scrips, Tata Steel, Tech Mahindra, HCL Technology, Indusind Bank and Reliance Industries went down, however, buying in Maruti Suzuki, NTPC, Titan and SBI capped from further losses, broker said. In sectoral indices, Metal was a major loser, down by 3.44 pc to Rs 1318.60 followed by Energy by 1.11 pc, Material by 0.97 pc and Oil and Gas by 0.56 pc. The Mid Cap rose by 0.58 pc while Small Cap by 1.11 pc. In 30 scrips, 13 advanced while 17 declined. Asia markets were in negative zone. China’s Shanghai Composite index was down 1.1 per cent, the S&P/ASX200 index fell 0.6 per cent. Even, the Nikkei too dropped 0.4 per cent. Hang Seng was down 0.3 per cent. However, Kospi, was up 1.2 per cent.
