Sensex ends firm at 61,150.04 points

Mumbai, Jan 12 (Agency) Maintaining gaining streak for the fourth straight session, the BSE Sensex on Wednesday spurted 533.15 points, breaching 61K to close at 61,150.04 following gains in telecom, utilities, power and realty stocks amid strong global peers. The Nifty of National Stock Exchange (NSE) too rose by 156.60 points at 18,212.35. The equity market remained in green throughout the session as it opened higher at 61,014, up 398 points. During the day, it soared 602 points at 61,218, the day’s high, before closing at 61,150.04, advancing 533.15 points from its previous close The Sensex registered the day’s high and low at 61,218.19 and 60,850.93 respectively. The Nifty recorded the day’s high and low at 18,227.95 and 18,128.80 respectively.

Sectoral indices including telecom, utilities, power, energy and realty kept the rally intact. In scrips, M & M on Wednesday rallied 4.59 per cent to Rs 880, a major gainer in 30 scrips of BSE, followed by Bharti Airtel by 3.75 per cent to Rs 730, IndusInd Bank by 2.67 per cent to Rs 942.80, Reliance Industries by 2.61 per cent to Rs 2,519 and ICICI Bank by 1.63 per cent to Rs 823.65. The losers were Titan by 1.56 per cent to Rs 2,609.80, TCS by 1.47 per cent to Rs 3,858.35, Tech Mahindra by 0.78 per cent to Rs 1,724.80 and HDFC Bank by 0.62 per cent to Rs 1,556. The Mid Cap rose by 1.08 per cent and Small Cap by 0.70 per cent. In 30 scrips, 26 advanced while 4 declined. Asia markets were seen firm. Hang Seng rallied 2.5 per cent and Nikkie by 1.9 per cent. Similarly, Shanghai Composite went up by 0.8 per cent and Kospi too moved up 1.5 per cent.
