Mumbai, Aug 4 (FN Agency) The BSE Sensex on Wednesday ended at a new peak, breaching 54K level at 54,369.77, surging 546.41 on the strength of Bamkex, Finance and Energy stocks. The Nifty rose by 128.05 pts at 16,258.80. Even, expansion in Services PMI in July on a monthly basis, reflecting strengthening of economic activity, bolstered sentiment on the bourses. The sensex advanced 148 pts to 54,071.22 in opening trade. It spurted 642 pts to 54,465.91, days high before closing at 54,369.77, up by 546.41 pts from its previous close. The sensex registered days high and low at 54,465.91 and 54,034.31 pts respectively.
The Nifty recorded days high and low at 16,290.20 and 16,176.15 pts respectively. The sectoral indices like Bankex, Finance and Energy stocks gave a big support to climb. However, selling in Realty, Telecom, Consumer Durable and Consumer Discretionary Goods and Services restricted from further gains. The scrips include HDFC, Kotak Bank, ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank and SBI boosted the same. The Mid Cap declined by 1.05 pc and Small Cap too slipped by 1.06 pc. In 30 scrips, 12 advanced while 18 declined. The Asian Market was up, as SGX Nifty rose by 0.59 pc, Straits Times by 1.07 pc, Hang Seng by 0.88 pc and Taiwan by 0.40 pc.
