Sensex closes at new peak of 55,792.27 pts

Mumbai, Aug 17 (FN Agency) The BSE Sensex was on top for the fourth straight session on Tuesday, as it rallied by 209.69 pts to close all-time-high at 55,792.27, following gains in IT, Technology, Health Care and FMCG stocks. The Nifty rose by 51.55 pts at 16,614.60. Though the volatility was witnessed today, the Sensex finished on top. The Sensex opened weak at 55,565.64, fell by 17 pts. It was dropped 196 pts to 55,386.49 days low. In late trade it bounced back and finished at 55,792.27, up by 209.69 pts from its previous close. The Sensex registered days high and low at 55,854.88 and 55,386.49 pts respectively. The Nifty recorded days high and low at 16,628.55 and 16,495.40 pts respectively.

The sectoral indices like IT, Technology, Health Care and FMCG stocks kept the rally intact today. In scrips, Tech Mahindra was a major gainer up by 3.21 pc to Rs 1411.50 followed by Nestle India, Hind Unilever, Titan and TCS. However, selling in IndusInd Bank, NTPC, Bharti Airtel, Tata Steel and L& T restricted from further gains, broker informed. The Mid Cap rose by 0.71 pc and Small Cap by 0.30 pc. In 30 scrips, 17 advanced while 13 declined. The Asian Market remained in red as Nikkei fell by 0.36 pc followed by Straits Times by 0.86 pc, Hang Seng by 1.66 pc and Kospi by 0.89 pc.
