Mumbai, Aug 10 (Agency) The BSE Sensex on Tuesday ended at a record high at 54,554.66, up by 151.81 pts on the strength of Telecom, Technology and Energy stocks. The Nifty rose by 21.85 pts at 16,280.10. High volatility was witnessed during the day, as the Sensex opened higher by 59 pts at 54,461.31. During the day it spurted 377 pts to 54,779.66, days high before closing at 54,554.66, advancing 151.81 pts from its previous close. Meanwhile, it was dropped 94 pts to 54,308.77, days low. The Sensex registered days high and low at 54,779.66 and 54,308.77 pts respectively.
The Nifty recorded days high and low at 16,359.25 and 16,202.25 pts respectively. The sectoral indices that pushed the market were Telecom, Technology and Energy stocks. While, selling in Metal, Realty, Power, Utilities and Industrials stocks capped from further gains, broker informed. In scrips, Bharti Airtel was a star gainer, up 3.84 pc to Rs 622.25 followed by Tech Mahindra by 2.81 pc to Rs 1323.10, HDFC by 1.88 pc to Rs 2671.80, Kotak Bank by 1.80 pc to Rs 1812.75 and M& M by 1.48 pc to Rs 786.40. The Mid Cap eased by 0.85 pc and Small Cap by 2.05 pc. Of 30 scrips, 15 advanced while 16 declined. The Asian Market was up as SGX Nifty by 0.03 pc, Nikkei by 0.24 pc, Straits Times by 0.95 pc and Hang Seng by 1.23 pc.
