Hyderabad, Jan 24 (FN Agency) Giving a major thrust towards Mission Electrification, Hyderabad Division of South-Central Railway (SCR) has completed electrification of newly constructed Akkanapet–Medak Railway line for a distance of 18.56 Kms at a cost of Rs 15.49 crore. With this, the total electrification of Track Kms on the Division has increased to 1,004 Tkms, the Railway said in a release here on Thursday. The Division has also achieved 100 percent electrification except for the recently constructed Manoharabad–Siddipet Rail line. Brij Mohan Meena, Principal Chief Electrical Engineer, SCR, and Lokesh Vishnoi, Divisional Railway Manager, Hyderabad Division, inaugurated a new tower car (specialized vehicle used for inspection, maintenance and repair of overhead equipment in electrified Railway sections) at Akkanapet railway station recently during the inspection for commissioning of electrification on Akkanapet–Medak rail line.
The electrification of this section in Hyderabad Division is a step forward towards achieving the target of net zero emissions set by Indian Railways. The Akkannapet–Medak railway line is an important line which connects Medak with the main rail route of Secunderabad–Nizamabad-Aurangabad and beyond towards Mumbai. The electrification of this railway line will help in providing seamless movement of trains by avoiding change of traction power and also facilitates running of more coaching trains in the section. The transition from diesel to electric traction is going on at a fast pace in the Hyderabad Division. The share of electric traction in Gross Tonne Kms (GTKMs) in the division has increased from 29.3 percent in 2023-24 to 81.7 percent in the current financial year 2024-25. SCR General Manager Arun Kumar Jain, while congratulating the electrical department of SCR and Hyderabad Division for their efforts in achieving this milestone, stated that electrification of rail lines is contributing towards the realization of a greener, more efficient and modern railway system.
