Plastindia- all set to return to Pragati Maidan between Feb 1-5, 2023

New Delhi, Nov 3 (Representative) Billed as global largest exposition -Plastindia- is all set to return to Pragati Maidan in New Delhi between February 1-5, 2023 in a larger scale in which some 2000 exhibitors from 40 countries around the world would display and trade their wares. Plastindia Foundation president Jigish Doshi while announcing the five-day 11th edition of International Plastic Exhibition’s dates and venue told an audience here that the response for “PLASTINDIA 2023” was huge and all the spaces – spread across 150 acres – with a total built-up area of 4.2 million sq ft. at Pragati Maidan were sold out already. The 10 edition of Plastindia last held in 2018 in which USD 120 million business was generated. “ The event has been very well received and the space is already sold out. A total of nearly 2000 exhibitors from across the globe will showcase their products and technology. All halls,the new and the old, in Pragati Maidan are booked for the exhibition,” Doshi elaborated.

“The world is looking at us for supplies of plastic goods and this is a huge opportunity for us to explore more and more areas for Make in India products,” Doshi told a group of industrialists, especially the plastic manufacturers of West Bengal. “ The production and consumption of plastics in India have increased many folds in the last 3 decades. In 2021-22 the consumption of plastics was approx. 22 MMT, compared to 0.9 MMT in 1990. The industry gives jobs to over 4 million people and comprises over 50,000 processing units, 80 percent of which are small and medium-sized enterprises. This sector is predicted to achieve 9.1 lakh crores by 2025,” Doshi citing data said.

The eastern Indian states of West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, and Assam have the potential to drive the growth of the plastic Industry of India. West Bengal has an estimated demand of 5 million tons per annum of consumer and industrial products made of Polymer and Plastics. 40 percent of the total requirement is produced in West Bengal and 50 pc is procured from other states of India, 10 pc is imported. In 2020 – 2021 the state has exported 0.34 million tons of plastics. The industry gives jobs to over 5nlakhs people and comprises over 5000 processing units. “ Excellent initiatives of the government (Bengal) in the last decade, industry-friendly policies, and uninterrupted power have aided the growth of the plastic industry in the state,” Plastindia Foundation president said.
