NTPC’s power generation up 30.48 pc in Eastern region

New Delhi, July 3 (Agency) National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) Eastern Region-I units including Joint Ventures (JVs) and its subsidiaries generated 17,671 Million Units (MU) of electricity in the first quarter of Financial Year 22-23, which is 30.48 percent more compared to the year-ago period. The increase in power generation assumes significance as India’s electricity demand on June 9 was recorded at an all-time high of 2,10,792 Mega Watts (MWs) and 4,712 million units of electricity were consumed. The growing power demand is a key indicator of India’s economic recovery and energy consumption, especially of electricity and refinery products, which are usually linked to overall demand in the economy.

“The exponential performance of all Eastern Region-1 units, especially NPGC and Barh units is an indicator of our expertise in the power sector which is possible due to robust operation and maintenance practices as well as consistent focus on systems improvement mechanism by our team.” Sital Kumar, Regional Executive Director (East-I), NTPC said while narrating the achievements. While sharing the contribution of NTPC’s ER-I power plants to Bihar, company Spokesman Vishwanath Chandan said, “Bihar has a total 6,030 MW power allocation from NTPC plants out of which 5,428 MW is being supplied from NTPC’s Eastern region-I power plants only. In fact, electricity generated from Eastern region-I plants contributed significantly to meet the power demand of the state beside other beneficiary states”. NTPC Eastern region-1 has an installed power generation capacity of 10,510 Megawatts (MWs) across eight projects in Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal, while projects with an installed capacity of 3,720 MWs are under construction.

NTPC Eastern Region-1 has also realised a hundred percent of the billed amount in the last financial year. NTPC Group has a present installed capacity of over 69,134 MW with 78 power stations, including 34 renewable projects. The group has over 15 Gigawatt (GW) of capacity under construction, including five GW of renewable energy projects. Uninterrupted supply of electricity through environment-friendly energy projects at affordable prices has been the key strength of NTPC. Along with power generation, NTPC has also ventured into various new business areas like e-mobility and waste-to-energy and participated in the bidding for power distribution of Union territories.
