NCCF to float Bharat brand food grains for Diwali

Bengaluru, Oct 28 (Agency) In a bid to alleviate the burden of rising prices and sweeten the festive season, the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, along with the National Cooperative Consumers’ Federation of India Ltd (NCCF), has commenced the distribution of essential food grains at affordable prices in Namma Bengaluru. This initiative aims to ensure that residents can celebrate Deepavali without the added worry of escalating food costs. Beginning Wednesday, the distribution features high-quality products available under the Bharat brand. Prices have been set significantly lower than current market rates, with Bharat rice available at just Rs 34 per kg, Bharat wheat flour at Rs 30 per kg, Bharat chana dal at Rs 70 per kg, and Bharat moong dal priced at Rs 107 per kg.

In contrast, the market rates for these essentials range from Rs 55-60 for rice, Rs 45-50 for flour, Rs 90-100 for chana dal, and Rs 120-130 for moong dal. This initiative was launched in Bengaluru as part of the government’s efforts to support citizens, following the directives of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Pralhad Joshi emphasised the programme’s goal of providing quality grains at an affordable rate, stating, “It reflects our commitment towards the welfare of the people.” The initiative is expected to make a significant impact in ensuring that the festivities are not overshadowed by financial concerns. With the festive season approaching, the distribution of these essential food grains is poised to bring relief to many Bengaluru residents during Deepavali.
