Chennai, July 24 (Representative) Tamil Nadu Health Minister Ma.Subramanian inaugurated the third edition of international and national ‘Aval-2022’ (She-2022) organised by the Kancheepuram Obstetric and Gynaeocological Society (KOGS) here last evening.The event was inaugurated in the presence of KOGS President Dr A.R.Chakravarthy and Secretary Dr Umaiyal Murugesan at a starhotel in the city. Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said the government will nothesitate to take action against erring doctors. Referring to the recent incident of forcing a 16-year-old girl to donateher oocytes to some private hospitals and the action taken by the stategovernment against the offenders, Subramanian said soon after theincident came to light, the government ordered closure of the hospitalswithin two weeks.
Stating that medical profession was a noble profession, the Minister saidsome people are indulging in some wrong doings. Referring to the oocyte incident, he said the state government has alsourged the Medical Council of India to punish the hospitals involved inthis. He said the management of these hospitals have approached the courtand obtained a stay stating that notice has to be issued to them at leastsix weeks in advance and the government has filed its counter to it. “Whoever indulge in any wrong acts, the government will not remaina mute witness to it…necessary action will be taken action this”, Subramanian said, adding, why he was asserting this fact in this eventwas that a majority of the participants are gynaecological experts, whoshould take this message to others and cooperate with the government.
The Minister also said that at the same time, the government was alsoready to address the genuine needs of the medical professionals andwished the conference all success.. In her address, Dr Sanathakumari said “we have been consistentlystressing that all doctors should follow the medicine-related laws andthe guidelines issued by the government. “But some doctors are indulging in wrong doings and they are not beingencouraged by the hospital management”, she added.
