Hyderabad, Nov 25 (FN Agency) The Indian Railways Institute of Signal Engineering & Telecommunications (IRISET) celebrated its 67th annual day on Sunday, showcasing its strides in training and innovation in railway signalling and telecommunications technologies. Director General Sharad Kumar Srivastava highlighted the institute’s achievements, including training a record 5,195 personnel across 221 courses this year, totalling 74,800 trainee days. Notably, the institute has pioneered programmes on Kavach, India’s National Automatic Train Protection System, training 1,014 individuals through 45 specialized courses. To enhance capacity-building, IRISET signed MoUs with universities to offer electives on railway signaling and developed training for diverse groups, including loco shed supervisors and mechanical officers.
The institute also established advanced laboratories for 5G, IP-MPLS, and LTE technologies, furthering hands-on learning opportunities. Dr Radha Krishna Ganti of IIT Madras, delivering the keynote, urged greater collaboration with engineering students and startups to advance indigenous solutions. General Manager Arun Kumar Jain emphasized upgrading training programmes to address skill gaps and support fast-paced infrastructure development. On the occasion, academic excellence awards were presented to 12 trainees, and a technical magazine, Gyandeep, was released. The celebrations also featured technical workshops, exhibitions on modern signalling and telecom systems, and a cultural programme, underscoring IRISET’s commitment to innovation and excellence in railway technologies.
