New Delhi, Oct 31 (Agency) India’s core sector comprising of eight key infrastructure components grew 8.1% year-on-year (YoY) in September 2023, according to data released by Commerce and Industry Ministry on Tuesday. Barring crude oil, all other segments recorded positive growth in September this year. “The combined Index of Eight Core Industries (ICI) increased by 8.1 per cent (provisional) in September 2023 as compared to the Index of September 2022.
The production of coal, steel, electricity, natural gas, refinery products, cement and fertilizers recorded positive growth in September 2023 over the corresponding month of last year,” said the official release. The ICI measures combined and individual performance of production of eight core industries and comprise 40.27% of the weight of items included in the Index of Industrial Production (IIP). As per the data released today, cement production increased by 4.7% in September, 2023 over September, 2022. Coal production increased by 16.1% during this period. Crude oil production declined by 0.4% in September, 2023 over September, 2022. Electricity generation grew 9.3% year-on-year in September this year. Fertilizer production increased by 4.2% during this period. “Natural gas production (weight: 6.88 per cent) increased by 6.5 per cent in September, 2023 over September, 2022,” the official release said. While petroleum refinery production increased by 5.5% year-on-year in September, 2023, the steel production increased by 9.6% during this period.
