New Delhi, March 13 (Bureau) Indian market is brimming with remarkable opportunities in technical textiles and has enormous scope to grow and capture the global market on the back of the National Technical Textiles Mission, PLI and PM MITRA schemes, Union Minister of State for Textiles Darshana Jardosh said on Saturday. Highlighting the importance of technical textiles for boosting the economy of the country and its potential to contribute to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Mission on ‘Atmanirbharta’, she emphasized that it is the right time to maximize investment, employment, and women’s participation in the industry.
She was speaking at the International Conference on Technical Textiles. Emphasizing on the importance of technical textiles in boosting the economy of the country, the Minister said, various flagship missions and schemes of the Government of India, including Jal Jivan Mission, Mission of Integrated Development of Horticulture, National Health Mission, National Investment Pipeline, and strategic sectors are expected to create untapped opportunities in the domestic market. She urged the wide scale application of technical textiles through integrated efforts of all the ministries and government agencies. Dr V K Saraswat, Member NITI Aayog, said research, development and innovation is crucial for attaining the USD 43 Bn Technical Textiles market by 2024-25. A plethora of factors drive the domestic technical textiles market including rising incomes, expanding infrastructure and construction, growing healthcare, and increasing global market, among others, Dr Saraswat added. Professor K Vijay Raghavan, Principal Scientific Advisor, Government of India, highlighted the vital role of innovative solutions and R&D in driving the technical textiles market in India under its flagship programme of National Technical Textiles Mission (NTTM). He added that industry academia linkages are essential for development of indigenous technical textiles.
