India to excel in the international value chain system

Hyderabad, July 21 (FN Agency) Dr P D Vaghela, Chairman of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), highlighted the disruptive nature of new technology and its effects on the existing players in the market. He shared his insights during an interaction with the faculty of GITAM, Hyderabad, along with his secretary V Raghunandan. Addressing the importance of research, Dr Vaghela emphasized that for India to excel in the international value chain system, focusing on research and development is crucial.

He stated that while India has shown strength in implemental research, there is room for improvement in basic research, especially in the fields of communication and broadcasting. Regarding Artificial Intelligence (AI), Dr Vaghela commended India for proposing a comprehensive ecosystem in AI, which has potential applications in education and healthcare. However, he also acknowledged the challenges, including negative effects on society, and the need to balance the positives and negatives of new technologies. Discussing India’s digital economy, Dr Vaghela highlighted the significant growth and impact of digitalization on the economy and society. He mentioned the accomplishments in the communication sector, with India being the second-largest telecom sector globally and a leader in digital transactions, particularly with the implementation of the Unified Payments Interface (UPI). Dr Vaghela emphasized that India’s role in the world is commendable due to its achievements in the communication field. He mentioned India’s assistance to various countries, particularly in the communication and technology sectors.

The TRAI Chairman discussed the advancements in communication technologies, including 4G, 5G, and 6G, and India’s leadership position in these areas. He stressed the importance of digital inclusion and ensuring that citizens have access to affordable devices and connectivity. In the next five years, Dr Vaghela highlighted the challenge of developing numerous applications catering to various segments of the population, including students, farmers, and fishermen. During the visit, the TRAI Chair and Secretary paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi and observed the wind turbines of the Indo-Korean project, supported by the Government of Korea in association with Esco-RTS and Archimedes Green Energy’s (P) Limited. The project aims to monitor wind data and compare the performance of Indian and Korean models, with GITAM playing a role in addressing technical aspects associated with wind turbines and analyzing wind data worldwide where Archimedes Wind Turbines are deployed.
