IMF may lower forecast for global economic growth in July

Washington, June 9 (Agency) The International Monetary Fund (IMF) may revise downward in July its forecast for the global economic growth, IMF spokesperson Gerry Rice said on Thursday. “We did revise our growth forecast back in April, at the time of our WEO update,” Rice said during a press briefing, referring to IMF’s World Economic Outlook report. “We went from 4.4% for the world in 2022 to 3.6%, and since then clearly a number of developments have taken place that could lead us to revise further, when that comes with the World Economic Outlook update in July.”

Rice explained that given how the situation in the world is developing, the IMF may be forced to make further revisions still. The IMF spokesperson characterized the current economic situation as a “slowdown” as a significant number of countries continue to confront significant challenges. “We see the global economy headed into a growth slowdown. Some countries may indeed be looking at recession,” Rice said.
