IIT Hyd is hub of innovation and excellence, says Telangana Deputy CM

Hyderabad, Jan 3 (Representative) Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka described IIT Hyderabad as a “lighthouse of innovation and a crucible of collaboration.” Speaking at the Hyderabad-Australia-India Critical Minerals Research Hub workshop organised by IIT Hyderabad held at its campus on Friday, the Deputy Chief Minister lauded the visionary leadership of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, who established IITs as “temples of modern India,” and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy, who played a pivotal role in laying the foundations of IIT Hyderabad. He highlighted how the institution embodies their shared vision of education and research as transformative forces for national progress. Bhatti Vikramarka emphasised the importance of research and its real-world applications, particularly in renewable energy technologies.

He underlined the critical role of minerals in building a green economy, stating that innovations like solar panels, wind turbines, electric vehicles, and energy storage batteries depend on these resources. He commended initiatives such as the Australia-India Critical Minerals Research Hub for ensuring a sustainable and ethical supply of critical minerals. The Deputy Chief Minister noted the collaborative approach adopted by Telangana, which integrates academia, industry, and local communities to drive progress in renewable energy and critical mineral sectors. He highlighted Telangana’s ambitious goals, including producing 20,000 MW of green energy by 2030 and prioritising green hydrogen technology as the fuel of the future. During the event, IIT Hyderabad’s significant contributions were showcased, including over 11,500 research publications, more than 320 patents, and startups generating Rs 1,500 crore in revenue.

The ongoing collaboration with Monash University under the Australia-India Critical Minerals Research Hub was recognised as a pivotal step in addressing global challenges. Bhatti Vikramarka emphasised that such programs are vital not only for Telangana but also for India and the world. The Deputy Chief Minister also reflected on the historical significance of the IITs. Quoting Pandit Nehru, he reiterated that IITs were envisioned as tools to fight poverty and inequality through science and technology. He acknowledged the critical role played by late Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy in operationalising IIT Hyderabad, expressing pride in being part of the initiative during his tenure as an MLC. Bhatti Vikramarka reaffirmed Telangana’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and scientific advancement. He expressed the government’s determination to lead in green energy, sustainable technology, and scientific innovation, emphasising that the ideas developed at IITs redefine industries and reshape economies.
