New Delhi Nov 7 (FN Agency) Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has called for transforming India into a powerhouse of engineering exports as the country marches towards achieving the Viksit Bharat goal. Addressing members of the engineering fraternity at an event on Wednesday evening to mark the beginning of celebrations of the 70th anniversary of EEPC India, the Minister highlighted the efforts made in the last 10 years to enhance ease of doing business (EoDB), reduce compliance burden and decriminalise various laws. The Minister also recalled being a member of EEPC India and said that he was fully aware of the industry’s challenges. He promised the government’s full support to the industry and urged EEPC India members to give their suggestions to further improve the ease of doing business.
Talking about EEPC India’s target to achieve exports of US$300 billion in the next 5-6 years, the Minister said that goal represents courage and conviction of new India. Invoking Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mantra of ‘Zero Defect and Zero Effect’, he emphasised that quality and sustainability are going to define India to the world. High quality productivity and cost competitiveness are going to define the nation’s journey towards Viksit Bharat. “We want to be second to none in our ambition, mission, and vision,” he said. The Minister noted that EEPC India represents not only the fastest growing sector in the export community but also is representative of a large number of employers across the country. “You represent the MSME sector in a very big way. You represent India’s talent and skill. You represent India’s capability at its very best on the world stage,” he said. A film on 69 years of EEPC India’s journey was also shown. Goyal unveiled the EEPC India logo at the event in New Delhi. The Minister reiterated that EEPC India is a model for export promotion councils.
