New Delhi, July 12 (FN Agency) The government has named as many as 29 non-official members representing small and large enterprises for the Board of Trade (BOT).The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has issued a notification in this regard. The government had in July 2019 merged the Council for Trade Development and Promotion with the Board of Trade through a notification. TCS CEO and Managing Director Rajesh Gopinathan, Sanjay Nayyar, Chairman and Senior Advisor of KKR India, Om Prakash Mittal, Executive Member, Laghu Udyog Bharati, and Harish Ahuja, Managing Director, Shahi Exports Ltd, are among the non-official members for the Board of Trade.
Dinesh Kanabar, CEO at Dhruva Advisors, R S Sodhi, Managing Director, GCMMF (Amul), and B S Nagesh, Chairman, Shoppers Stop Ltd, have also been named as non-official members. The Board of Trade advises the government on policy measures connected with the foreign trade policy in order to achieve the objectives of boosting India’s trade.As per the notification issued by the Commerce Ministry, the terms of reference (TOR) for the BOT include providing a platform to state governments and UTs for articulating state oriented perspectives on trade policy.
It will act as facilitator in implementation of District Export Hub events including sensitization workshops, identification and promotion of identified products. The members of the BOT would provide a platform to the government for apprising state governments and UTs about international developments affecting India’s trade potential and opportunities and to prepare them to deal with evolving situations.
