Mumbai, March 25 (FN Agency) As many as 12.84 lakh new subscribers were added under the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) in the month of January, 2022, the payroll data released by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation on Friday showed. As per the report titled “Payroll Reporting in India – A Formal Employment Perspective”, the total net new subscribers fell in January as compared to 15.34 lakh added in December last year. The report is based on payroll data from new subscribers to ESIC, the EPFO and the PFRDA.
According to the data 8.64 lakh new subscribers were added under the EPF scheme in the month of January, 2022, a decline of one lakh subscribers as compared to those added in December last year, which stood at 9.64 lakh. As many as 10.03 lakh members exited but re-joined EPF scheme by continuing their membership during the month. The data further showed that the National Pension Scheme (NPS) also witnessed a decline in net addition of subscribers to 64,998 from 72578 subscribers added in December 2021, registering a dip of 10.4 per cent. The report further said that nearly 1.04 million male and 2.3 lakh female subscribers were added to ESIC. Out of the total subscribers added under NPS, as many as 38524 members were state government employees, followed by Central government employees at 13421 and non-government or corporate sector were 13053 subscribers.
